"Warning - visiting this web site may harm your computer!" -- WHAT'S HAPPENING???In June 2008, there were concerns that my site contained a Trojan horse or malware. Google Safe Browsing states, "Part of this site was listed for suspicious activity 7 time(s) over the past 90 days." I could find NO malware nor any Trojan horse/virus sources and concluded that it MIGHT have been the use of video clips that I started using to document the violent protests of the anti-US beef protests in Jun-Aug 2008. Reduced all video clips to html links with a statement that Active X was required. What is confusing is that it states that the malicious software supposedly infected my server (ipower.com) among others -- and I have no control over that.I have NOT found any Trojans or malware on my site and do NOT know any specifics of the "suspicious activity" as to why my site was tagged. As of Sep 2008, the Google search still listed the site as a "harmful" site, though the site was supposedly "safe" as of 13 Sep 2008. At Google Safe Browsing, it states "Of the 100 pages we tested on the site over the past 90 days, 3 page(s) resulted in malicious software being downloaded and installed without user consent. The last time Google visited this site was on 09/13/2008, and the last time suspicious content was found on this site was on 08/06/2008."Bottomline: I don't know what caused this warning, but I'm stuck with it as Goggle controls the system. Thus my site seems safe for now, but as with any site, you proceed at your own risk. UPDATE: 3 Oct 2008: My server stated that a hacker had wormed into my index pages ON THE SERVER and inserted malicious code that redirected others computers to a site with malware. They removed the code from my index pages and told me to change my FTP password. I also replaced all my pages with what I had on my computer -- and that's a lot of pages. Anyway, the message from my server explains why I was locked out of my site for so many months with a changed password -- that I didn't initiate. It was a frustrating three months that I could NOT get into my website -- despite all my pleas for help from my server. The server technicians only responded when I stated I would be transferring services. What I found strange was that I have viewed my own pages from the server repeatedly during the past months when I was having troubles getting onto the site and my Norton Anti-virus programs never flagged any problems. I have recently changed to Kaspersky Anti-virus and also no virus warnings have been noted. But regardless of further actions, I strongly suggest ALL past visitors of my pages run an anti-virus program on their computers to ensure that I have not unwittingly aided in infecting their computer. |
